Position Overview:

As a Territory Sale Representative for Outdoor Power Equipment, you will be responsible for managing an assigned Sales Territory of independent accounts through a hands-on execution strategy of competent presentations, user targeting, problem resolution, account support initiatives and product demonstrations; effectively communicating progress toward various territory and corporate sales objectives.  Plus, sales growth and expansion and broadening brand and product awareness are the primary objectives of this position.  Additionally, participation in Regional and National promotional events and trade shows is required

Essential Job Duties:

  • Successfully manage the accounts assigned and achieve targets developed for territory.
  • Implement and demonstrate effective initiatives to grow and expand sales performance of accounts
  • Responsible for supporting sales goals in relation to overall sales, key product sales and support of key marketing initiatives.
  • Responsible for obtaining marketing information for existing product life cycles and new product development information when appropriate.
  • Provide training or product support to all areas of the organization based on special skills possessed as needed, and at all times provide professional representation of the product, company and objectives.
  • Continually search the marketplace for prospective business opportunities, relationships or situations which would enhance the corporate goals for conducting sales - and report to Management.
  • Assist in product testing and development of new products and accessories for USA market.
  • Assist in developing a product safety certification program for distribution to assist the Dealer network in continued product safety manuals, videos and training seminars.
  • Initiate contact with actual and potential customers, to include - but not limited to - the following groups:  landscapers, loggers, golf courses maintenance, contractors, tree care experts, highway maintenance groups, municipalities, and other industry trade users.
  • Maintain appropriate communications with Sales, Territory, Technical and General Manager to include:  an ongoing 60- day activity/event calendar, daily call reports, weekly summary reports and product/program comparison summaries.
  • Participation in trade shows, dealer open houses, and other action-specific events to promote the general relations between Makita and individual Dealers and end users.
  • Conduct new dealer product training at Dealer locations as well as other designated venues.

Education, Skills and / or Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from 4 year college or university; or 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of related industry experience in the outdoor power equipment industry, with intimate knowledge of accounts in the referenced territory, is required.
  • Experience in the landscaping industry is preferred.
  • Strong skills in PC, with abilities necessary to perform duties of position.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and spelling skills in English required.  Must be able to complete multiple tasks with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or management and all outside customers and vendors.
  • Must have substantial reasoning and problem solving abilities, extensive planning and scheduling skills, able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions best suited for the company.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, physical ability and attention to safety is necessary.
  • Non-limited physical agility is required as there if frequent bending, lifting / moving up to 65 lbs., reaching, standing, walking etc.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • A background in sales, training and / or customer service would be a good fit for this position.
  • Spanish language skills are desired.
  • Additional training / education workshops, seminars, courses of study, beneficial (not required).

Physical Demands:

  • Will be subjected to working extended and / or irregular hours.
  • May occasionally be required to lift, push, or pull files, boxes and equipment up to and over 40 lbs.
  • Visual and hearing acuity is required.
  • Able to work in an environment that may be subjected to occasional loud noises, hazardous materials, chemicals, etc.
