Distribution / Warehouse Supervisor

Job Summary: The Warehouse Supervisor provides the support to direct and control activities within the assigned functional area to maintain the efficient and economical utilization of facility resources and ensure proper distribution and delivery of outbound orders. The Warehouse Supervisor must be a strategic thinker and customer focused professional with successful management experience working in warehousing and distribution. Must be able to develop and implement value added initiatives that effectively increase productivity and accuracy, resulting in measurable improvements to the bottom line. The Warehouse Supervisor will have the ability to set, achieve and exceed operational goals and deliver positive results. 

Under the leadership of the DC Manager, oversees and coordinates the activities in the following operational areas to provide maximum operational effectiveness: 

  • Small Package- Pick, Pack and Ship
  • TL and LTL picking
  • Outbound Loading
  • Housekeeping
  • Safety Training
  • MHE Maintenance
  • Continuous Improvement
  • 5/6s Program

           

Job duties and Responsibilities: include the following.

  • Facilitate daily start-up meeting to communicate objectives and volumes for the day
  • Ensure day to day compliance with the standardized processes
  • Identify and recommend needed changes to the DC manager regarding standardized processes
  • Coordinate and monitor operations to ensure performance and productivity goals are consistent with business plans. Ensure plans are met.
  • Monitor and report productivity and accuracy
  • Promote continuous improvement while challenging the status quo.
  • Forecast and monitor associate staffing.
  • Provide recommendations to effectively address operational issues and problems
  • Promote and foster safety in work processes and educate employees in loss prevention, safety and OSHA policies and procedures; ensure the facility is a safe environment.
  • Maintain and support housekeeping standards of the facility by coordinating and maintaining a 5/6S program. Ensures all work areas are cleaned on a daily basis and are maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Ensure departmental quality and productivity standards are met through training, performance management and associate rewards and recognition.
  • Monitor and support all Makita initiatives, programs and policies
  • Ensure Daily KPIs are understood and maintained throughout the facility.
  • Participate in the performance review process for all non-exempt Employees
  • Communicate on a daily basis with DC Manager, Employees and Internal groups (Sales, Customer Service, purchasing other internal and external customers)
  • Complete special projects as assigned by DC Manager
  • Support quality inventory control through managing proper SOPs
  • Ensures that all timelines and customer compliance requirements are met
  • Prepares yearly performance reviews on all colleagues under their supervision.
  • Observes Sales’ requests for value added projects and expedite orders as needed.
  • Responsible for both normal and emergency openings and closings of the warehouse.
  • Establishes and maintains good labor relations and resolves grievances at the lowest step.
  • Administers discipline to colleagues.
  • Assures development of colleagues to provide for internal promotions and progressions.
  • Facilitates a monthly departmental safety meeting
  • Ensures that all colleagues are trained in SOP’s, safety awareness, and forklift safety.
  • Communicates daily with other supervisors to coordinate manpower allocations.

 Education, Skills and Experience Needed:

  • 2+ years previous supervisory or management experience
  • 5+ years in a fast pace distribution facility environment
  • College degree or some college course completion preferred
  • Warehouse Management Systems/ RF Technology
  • Six-Sigma/ Continuous Improvement
  • Microsoft qualifications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Advanced Preferred
  • Knowledgeable of the Fork Lift Certification Process

Physical Demands

  • May be subject to overtime as required, weekends or irregular hours
  • Ability to lift over 70 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop or reach for extended time
  • Ability to work in an environment that is sometimes hot or cold, and subject to occasional load noises and /or hazardous conditions.
